Ernie Cowles, a well-known collector of gem points and other ancient artifacts, is recognized for his extensive finds and contributions to the field of Native American antiquities.
Cascade points are typically narrow, medium to large ovoid or lanceolate points with an elliptical cross-section. The blade often curves inward at the tip and base, creating a contracting hafting region, and may feature serrated edges. The base can be pointed, rounded, or shallowly concave, with some variants showing sharply contracting basal margins. Flaking patterns vary, including parallel, oblique, collateral, or random. Unlike Humboldt points, grinding on the hafting region is generally absent.
Heager Island was part of the Columbia River in Washington State.
